NEW YORK--Jun. 22, 2009--
MF Global Ltd. (NYSE: MF), a leading intermediary offering customized
solutions in global cash, derivatives and related markets, has named
Laurie R. Ferber as its new general counsel and a member of the Office
of the CEO. Ms. Ferber succeeds Howard Schneider, who, following a
transition period, will retire after nearly 50 years of legal practice.
“Over the last eight months, we have instituted a global governance
model designed to increase efficiency, enhance accountability and drive
best practices,” said Bernard W. Dan, chief executive officer, MF
Global. “Laurie’s extensive regulatory and financial experience is
ideally suited to further advance MF Global's governance objectives
while guiding the company through today’s evolving regulatory
environment.
"We appreciate Howard’s hard work and the dedication he has brought to
this position over the last five years.”
As a member of the Office of the CEO, Ms. Ferber will play a key role in
developing and implementing the firm’s corporate strategy. She is also
responsible for managing litigation, compliance and regulatory matters
for the company.
Before joining MF Global, Ms. Ferber was general counsel and chief
regulatory officer for International Derivatives Clearing Group (IDCG).
From 1987 to 2008, she held a number of business and legal positions at
Goldman, Sachs & Co. that included serving as co-general counsel of the
Fixed Income, Currency and Commodities Division, developing new
businesses, creating a new function to coordinate global regulatory
relationships, and transitioning the firm to a Bank Holding Company.
